Thirsty? Or maybe just a bit peckish?

For a nice refreshing brew to relax with during the game, check out all the great Local Liquor Specials.

But liquid refreshment alone is not enough (very, very nearly, but not quite). While you’re at home enjoying the game, you’ll be wanting to throw back some snacks too. But who has time for elaborate cooking methods and fancy ingredients? No self respecting football junkie, that’s for sure. So, we’ve brought together a couple of delicious snack recipes that are so easy you can make them with one hand free to hold onto the remote (so no one sneaks in to turn over to Antique Roadshow while your back’s turned in the kitchen).

Easiest Nacho Recipe Ever

This ain’t no Women’s Weekly Test Kitchen, people! There’s footy to be watched! And no time to spare!

Ingredients:

  • 100g tortilla chips
  • 1/2 cup taco sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • jalapeno pepper slices, optional

Directions:

Place tortilla chips on a paper plate (there’s is no time to fuss with the good china). Pour taco sauce over chips. Sprinkle with the shredded cheese. If desired, top with jalapeno pepper slices…or anything you like really.

Microwave on HIGH for one to one and a half minutes, until cheese is melted… That’s seriously it!

Saucy Pizza Burgers

This little gem is for when you’ve got some mates coming round for the game and you’re looking to impress or just to keep their mouths full of food so they don’t talk through any critical try scoring moments.

Ingredients:

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (regular salt is fine)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tub tomato paste
  • 1 tin mushroom stems and pieces, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 4 hamburger buns, split

Directions:

In a bowl, combine beef and garlic salt. Shape into eight patties and top four of the patties with cheese. Cover with remaining patties and press edges to seal. Refrigerate. In a saucepan, combine the tomato paste, mushrooms and oregano. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. In a fry pan, saute onion in butter until tender; set aside. Fry the burgers until cooked through. Spread bottoms of buns with a little of the sauce; top with burgers, onion and remaining sauce. Makes 4 burgers and guarantees friends for life.

Deluxe Delicious Dreamy Fried Potatoes from Heaven

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium sized potatoes, chopped
  • 4 rashes bacon, chopped (or more)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • Shallots
  • Sour cream

Directions:

It doesn’t hurt to boil the Potatoes just a little before the good ol’ frying gets underway. Then chuck some butter in a large fry pan and cook the bacon and onion . Add the potato and let the potato brown a little, stirring all the time. Throw in some chopped shallots at the last minute and you got yourself something worthy of a great big smothering of sour cream goodness! Serves 4, or maybe just 1.

The Great Dip

So called because it will become known as the dip to end all dips.

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet dry French Onion soup mix
  • Small carton sour cream

Directions:

Combine sour cream and soup mix together and you’re done… This one comes with a Guarantee – someone will be licking the bowl before the first ad break.

And finally folks, always remember the two golden rules of snack cuisine.

  1. Sour cream is your friend, your very good friend.
  2. American mustard turns everything it touches to junk food (so keep a tub in the fridge at all times).
